Hancock is proud to have a rich and diverse history of business ideation and job creation. Did you know that Hancock was birthplace to Thomas Burr Crary, who invented the modern washing machine? You will know his company by a different name today, most people call it Whirlpool!  It’s no secret that people credit much of his work to Binghamton, but few people know his real think tank was here in Hancock.

Hancock is open for business, and we welcome all innovators and game-changers. Our town is working to bring quality businesses to our vibrant community and redefine small-town America!

Hancock Cinemas

Hancock’s first cinema was built by The Odd Fellows (an international service-oriented organization) in 1909 to hold meetings and provide a common area for local events. The Rebekahs (the female auxiliary of The Odd Fellows) also utilized the property for meetings. Now known again publicly as The Capitol Theater.

After making extensive renovations, and installing a new digital projector at a cost over $70,000, the former Capra Cinemas became the new Hancock Cinemas. It’s doors reopened on November 4, 2016, featuring “Dr. Strange”, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The newly renovated theaters boast 2 state of the art digital projectors. The Hancock Cinemas Cineplex is comprised of two theaters, a 150 seat cinema and 300 seat cinema. Our concession stand offers a variety of snacks, drinks, and of course, hot, fresh buttered pop corn.

Hancock Cinemas new location and management hopes to see you soon, and often!

Present Arts

Judith has been the President and Administrator of Theatrick's By Starlight Theatre Company and with that vast experience has advised numerous other groups on their organizational skills.

Now a producer for Present Arts, Judith produces, writes, and directs all her own works. Judith can often be found acting, along with her fine-arts installations and exhibitions. Judith's work in both fields can be seen from Hancock, NY to Binghamton, NY at Historical Societies, Museums, VFW/Legion Halls, The Phelps Mansion, and regional galleries.

Author of "Life on the Mountain" a weekly publication feature in the Hancock Herald. Available to read on HancockHerald.com

Judith Present’s recent play: ‘Three Women: First, Foremost, and Unique’ about the three women are Mary Todd Lincoln, Sarah Bernhardt, and Marie Curie. Judith Present did a lot of research to write this play, and discovered much about these women that contradicts the popular impressions of their lives and personalities.

Judith is always looking for good and new ideas for Present Arts to work with the Hancock Community.
